death in the open

artwork by hungrybison

The morning sun
shimmers on  the frost.

A bird’s call breaks the silence.
I lay wounded,  an arrow piercing my side.

A  tree moans  in the  breeze.
The earth is still.

My blood flows freely
turning fresh snow red.
I lay paralized,
alone and dying.
