Red light

A cigarette glowing in a dim room

by a cactus,
An unsettled peace,
A decaying body, still alive,
Drowning slowly from within.
Demanded silence from the child.
The future shorter,
Than a glowing cigarette.

Life becomes nothing more than
A balloon in the wind,
A darkening sky,
A song that can’t be heard.

There was nothing said at the time,
Even less later.

Free beer and bad sandwiches,
A glowing red light,
Like the cigarette in the dim room.
