The North Shore 1970

Things were happening,

the walls of the abattoir became transparent.

The cities were swarming with flies, crawling with maggots.

The hawks were feeding.

A beast called War consumed young men.

Those that ran became outlaws.

They headed to the surf.

Longboards became short.

Free, they sat in the water

amongst the packs of sharks, there was less danger.

Living in vacant houses, stealing food, ignoring the lies,

they lived, while others died.
