Slowly I was Disappearing

I remember that night,
slumping into the sofa,
my body liquifying,
and being absorbed
by the thirsty material
on which I sat.

Slowly I was disappearing.

I could see it all happening,
but I was too powerless,
physically,
and mentally,
to prevent its continuance.

Soon all that was left was my heart,
beating,
beating,
cold,
but not melting.
