Good Luck

they dragged themselves
up from the river
to bivouac amongst the willow

here was found
the mangled body of a deer
recently killed by wolves

they placed their fingers
into clotted blood
and drew lightning bolts
and hailstones
upon their faces

this,
to all,
was a symbol of good luck
